Welcome

On behalf of the International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), we would like to cordially invite you to attend the III International Symposium on Organic Matter Management and Compost Use in Horticulture, to be held in Murcia (Spain) on 20-24th April 2015.

Why you should attend

The 3rd edition of the international Symposium is aimed at bringing together scientists around the world working on areas of organic matter management and compost use in horticulture. The present edition will cover different aspects including nutritional issues (N use efficiency and P recycling) and the implication on global food security, different environmental and health issues associated to the use of compost in agriculture, and also a reflection on novel organic amendments and future needs to ensure its safe use and commercialisation. A specific session will be devoted to the interaction of biochar and organic matter both in soil and during composting, in the framework of the European project FERTIPLUS which is aimed at nutrient recycling via integration of compost and biochar (www.fertiplus.eu).

The scientific activities planned over the four days symposium include an opening lecture and 7 scientific sessions led by world class keynote speakers, several round tables for discussion, specialised workshops and a technical visit (the last day of the congress) to some of the most modern agricultural facilities in the area.

The symposium will be held in Murcia, a region in South-East Spain with a strong agricultural background. Murcia is one of the world's largest fruit and vegetable producers and exporters, with the European Union as the principal market.

We welcome colleagues from all around the world to join the International Symposium and we hope you will also enjoy the life-style, rich Mediterranean gastronomy and cultural attractions of Murcia.

See you in Murcia!

Sincerely,
The Organising Committee
